Beach
WeakThe beach is the resort's weakest link: small, rocky in spots, and hammered by sargassum in season with a rotten-egg smell that drives everyone into the pool.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Public Playa del Carmen beach a short walk away
- Beach security staff attentive
Heads up
- Heavy sargassum and sulfur smell in season
- Rocky entry needs water shoes
- Very small strip of sand
- Public access brings non-guests
There is a very narrow rocky beachfront with limited access for swimming; guests often walk to nearby beaches.

Pools
StrongThe pool is where this resort earns its keep: a good-sized main pool with lively daytime programming that essentially replaces the beach.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Pool compensates for weak beach
- Poolside sushi and pizza service
- Fun activities and games
- Attentive pool servers
Heads up
- No swim-up bar in main pool
- No gradual entry, hard to ease in
- Pools close relatively early
Large oceanfront main pool with waiter service and daily activities, plus a quiet rooftop pool and hot tub.

“Absolutely amazing place good food options in good drink options all-inclusive release the way to go. Staff are friendly. I did take long to get a few drinks but nonetheless it is a good experience. I was here on Dia de los Muertos The Day of the Dead walking down Fifth Avenue was fun as this was the center of all the events happening. The proximity to everything important in Playa del Carmen is this hotels best asset.”

“Access to the beach wasn't very good, other than that, I enjoyed my stay.”

“We came to Wyndham Alltra Playa del Carmen with our adult children to celebrate our anniversary, and we couldn’t have asked for a more wonderful experience. We enjoyed a relaxing, memorable stay, and the service throughout the resort was absolutely amazing. The rooms were exceptionally clean, and every detail made us feel welcomed and cared for.

One of my favorite restaurants was Bella Italian, where the food and service were wonderful. I also really enjoyed the Sushi Restaurant on...”

“This is the best food I’ve ever eaten at a resort. The buffet, the restaurants and the snack bar is always stocked and full of amazing food.

The staff is absolutely wonderful. The bartenders are super speedy and friendly. The DJ, and entertainers David(s) are sweet and funny.

Will absolutely recommend coming here - slower season is good if you want more quiet.”
★★★★★
“The hotel is nice, clean, and has good facilities, the staff is extremely nice. However, there are very few restaurants for such a huge resort. If you visit during the off-season, you will probably have a great experience. But during peak season, I doubt you will be able to fully enjoy your stay because the facilities are simply too limited for the number of rooms and guests.

On top of that, the hours for alcoholic drinks and entertainment are very restricted. Alcoholic beverages are...”

Know before you book
- very limited rocky beach with seaweed odor
- trouble securing pool loungers without paying early
- beach access not suitable for swimming
- Heavy sargassum and sulfur smell in season
Location
#1 Avenida Constituyentes, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, 77710, Mexico

What to Know
Come for the 5th Avenue location and pool, not the beach, and budget for a few surprises: parking fees, upcharges, and elevator outages that recur in recent stays.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Steps from 5th Avenue shops and nightlife
- Upgrade to Junior Suite for a balcony
- 24-hour snack bar for late-night
- Standard rooms have no balcony
Heads up
- No on-site parking, hourly street rates
- Elevators frequently out of service
- Top-shelf liquor and spa are upcharges
- Deposit refund delays reported
WATCH OUT: Seasonal heads-up
- Sargassum seaweed possible April–August along the Riviera Maya, which can affect the beach across the street
- Hurricane season runs June–November, with peak risk August–October
- Spring break (March) brings a louder, party-leaning crowd to Fifth Avenue
Transfers from Cancun airport run roughly an hour; pre-book a shuttle since taxis at the airport are expensive. Tipping isn't expected but is appreciated by the bar and restaurant staff who get singled out in nearly every review. Bring water shoes if you want to wade in front of the resort, and plan to be poolside by 8–9am if you want a lounger on a busy day. Most staff speak English, and US dollars are widely accepted along Fifth Avenue.
Good to know
- pool cabanas and some loungers require early arrival or fee
- noise from street festivals may reach rooms
- wrist bands may be cut at checkout—no late snacks or drinks
