Why travelers love it

“Adults-only Caribbean hideaway with calm bay swimming and a dive center”

Tucked along a sheltered Bayahibe cove, this adults-only Secrets pairs unusually calm, swimmable water with strong service and a wide à la carte lineup — and guests can also use restaurants at the neighboring Dreams. The setting feels secluded compared to Punta Cana, which is part of the appeal, though it also means evening entertainment is on the quieter side.

Food & drink

Strong

Ten restaurants plus a buffet cover the range from Japanese teppanyaki at Sakura to seafood by the sea, and most guests find the food refined for an all-inclusive. A vocal minority calls portions small and dishes underwhelming, so calibrate expectations below true fine-dining.

Dining overview

Around eleven restaurants and eight bars including several à la carte venues, and guests have reciprocal dining access at neighboring Dreams La Romana, which roughly doubles the choice. Most reviewers praise the variety and quality, though a few flag inconsistent buffet variety and the occasional cold dish.

Beach

Standout

Turquoise, calm bay water lined with coconut palms, and largely sargassum-free swimming that ranks among the region's best. The beach itself is narrower than Punta Cana's and has some rocky patches, so the Preferred Club beach zone is worth the upgrade.

Editorial beach rating

Soft sand fronting a protected bay, so the water stays calm with a gentle sandy bottom and minimal waves — easy swimming even for nervous swimmers. Guests note the beach is genuinely nice, though chair-saving and slower drink service on the sand are recurring gripes.

Pools

Standout

Multiple pools including an infinity pool, a Preferred Club adults pool, and access to the family pool next door make this a standout for water time. Poolside drink service is strong, though bars closing at 6pm before sunset is a common gripe.

Editorial pool rating

Two outdoor pools including a large infinity pool overlooking the sea, plus a smaller Preferred Club adults pool that reviewers single out as the standout spot. A swim-up bar anchors the action and the Preferred pool gets the most attentive drink service.

What’s included

Strong

For quiet luxury on a beautiful stretch of Bayahibe, this delivers, especially when you factor in access to both Secrets and Dreams properties. Skip the Preferred upgrade at your discretion; some swear by it, others say the standard experience is already strong.

Package inclusions and upgrade access have not been collected yet. Confirm them for your room and dates when booking.

Amenities & activities

Couples

Ideal

This is honeymoon and anniversary territory: quiet grounds, palm-lined beach, swim-up rooms, and staff who go out of their way for celebrations. Preferred Club butlers arrange pier dinners and personalized touches that make the trip.

Families

Not a fit

The Secrets tower is adults-only and no one under 18 is permitted, though the connected Dreams La Romana side handles families with a water park and family pools. Book Dreams if you're traveling with kids.

Peace & Quiet

Standout

A genuinely peaceful Bayahibe hideaway that draws the over-50 relaxation crowd rather than the party circuit. Evening entertainment is low-key, occasionally sleepy, but that is the point.

Adults‑only spa with hydrotherapy and beachside treatments, PADI dive center, water sports, fitness classes, tennis and pickleball courts, casino, Unlimited‑Luxury® all‑inclusive dining and drinks.

What past guests say

“We had a wonderful few days. It was a chance to escape the routine and our lives as parents, and we truly were able to disconnect. They made us feel very welcome, especially our butler Febles, Juan from Front Desk, and the team at the Coastal restaurant. We'll be back soon!”

“I have to unfortunately provide a 1 star because I can’t give it a ZERO.
With the exception of the gentleman at the front desk ( which I returned tipped and apologize for my attitude as his service had nothing to do with the service the concierge gave me), room service and an incredible waitress at Sakura this place is a waste of time and money.
It is incredibly sad to see the older staff members really go out of their way to see guest smile and have an experience while the younger...”

“We stayed from October 8th to 15th and I really enjoyed it. The location, the beach, the food, and especially the staff were incredibly charming and attentive. Things to improve: the entertainment, which is good but not enough. They told me they're planning to improve it next year. I really liked all the themed restaurants. The NOOR needs better lighting. We had a fantastic week with great company. One more thing: the smoking area is quite bad, exposed to the sun and with nowhere to sit....”

What you should know

What to Know

Reservations are needed for popular à la cartes like Sakura teppanyaki, and pool bars shut at 6pm well before dark. Beware Amstar excursion upselling in the lobby: book tours independently for better prices.

WATCH OUT: Seasonal heads-up

 • Bayahibe sees less sargassum than the Punta Cana coast but can still be affected in late spring and summer
 • Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk in September

Fly into Punta Cana (PUJ) — transfers run roughly 60–90 minutes; La Romana (LRM) is closer but has fewer flights. Tipping isn't required but is appreciated and goes a long way with bar and restaurant staff. Note the strict no-smoking policy outside designated areas, and book specialty restaurants early in your stay as prime times fill up. Drones are not permitted on resort grounds.

Good to know

 • Calm protected bay makes for some of the best swimming water in the DR
 • Reciprocal restaurant and facility access with neighboring Dreams La Romana
 • Preferred Club upgrade is widely considered worth it for the adults pool and lounge
 • Strict no-smoking policy outside designated areas — limited seating in those zones
 • Quieter and more secluded than Punta Cana, so evening entertainment is more limited
