Why travelers love it
“Adults-only Cozumel hideaway with a great snorkeling reef just offshore”
Guests consistently praise the warm and attentive staff, the beachfront setting with direct reef access, and elevated Preferred Club room options. Some note delays or inconsistency at check‑in or in room maintenance, highlighting variability in experience.
Food & drink
MixedFood is serviceable rather than the gourmet showcase a Secrets label promises, with Gohan teppanyaki and Bordeaux emerging as the clear standouts. Expect closed restaurants on rotation and repetitive sides that undercut the premium billing.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Gohan Japanese teppanyaki is the highlight
- Bordeaux draws consistent praise
- Full-strength drinks, not watered down
- Market Cafe breakfast (mangos, French toast)
Heads up
- Several restaurants closed on rotation nightly
- Limited authentic Mexican options
- Weak dessert and side dish variety
- QR-code menus often out of date
Dining overview
Eight venues: four à la carte (French, sushi, seafood, international), one buffet café, a grill, a café and a wine‑cellar private dining spot; reservations not required for most.

Barefoot Grill

Coco Café

Beach
StandoutThe reef-and-beach combo is the single best reason to book here, with clear water, healthy marine life under the pier, and soft sand. Entry is rocky with coral, so water shoes are non-negotiable.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Excellent snorkeling straight off the pier
- Puffer fish, barracuda, stingrays close to shore
- Soft sand and calm, clear water
- Ample loungers and shade available
Heads up
- Rocky, coral-strewn entry into the water
- Water shoes required
White-sand beach with calm Caribbean waters and an on-site pier; offers direct access to coral reefs for snorkeling, plus beach service.

Pools
MixedSmall, shallow pools scattered by building rather than one showpiece, and maintenance is visibly slipping in places. Pool entertainment with Aaron and Carlos is a genuine highlight when the bars are actually staffed.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Multiple pools spread across the property
- Fun pool volleyball and water aerobics
- Swim-out room pools connect to main pool
- Seating and towels rarely a problem
Heads up
- Tile missing and algae in some pools
- Pool bars close early or unstaffed
- Very shallow, kiddie-pool depth in spots
- Broken pool lighting reported
Four outdoor pools, including an infinity pool, a relaxing pool, a main pool with a swim-up bar and two water slides, and a private pool for Preferred Club guests. The resort also features an outdoor hot tub and a rooftop lounge.

Rooms & suites
266 roomsAll‑suite property with 266 modern suites featuring private terraces; many have swim‑up or partial‑ocean‑view options; Preferred Club adds lounge access, upgraded amenities, and hydrotherapy access.
Junior Suite Pool View
Entry-level suite with one king bed, a private balcony with sitting area, and views over the resort pools. The smallest category here, so pick this only if budget matters more than the ocean view.
- View:Pool view
- Sleeps:2 guests
- Size:51 m² (~549 ft²)
Includes
- +private balcony
- +sitting area
- +king bed
Junior Suite Pool View Swim Out
Same footprint as the standard pool-view junior suite but with a ground-floor terrace that walks straight into a shared pool. Note that guests have reported two flavors of swim-up here: some are true walk-in, others sit above a 3-foot pool with a slide entry, so confirm at booking.

What’s included
StrongPriced well below other Secrets properties, and for budget-minded couples who prioritize beach over polish, it delivers. Pay full luxury rates and the dated rooms and closed venues will sting.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Priced below sister Secrets resorts
- Small footprint means everything is walkable
- Strong service from named standouts (Ricardo, Kenia, Clara)
- Reef access included at no extra cost
Heads up
- Preferred Club upgrade widely called a waste
- Timeshare pitch is aggressive
Package inclusions and upgrade access have not been collected yet. Confirm them for your room and dates when booking.
Amenities & activities
Couples
Good fitThe adults-only calm, ocean-front sunsets, and warm signature staff make this a genuine anniversary and honeymoon pick. Just temper the romance-luxe expectations, the hardware is dated even if the mood is right.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Adults-only, quiet and unhurried
- Swim-out rooms directly to pool and beach
- Beautiful sunsets over the water
- Staff remember names and celebrate occasions
Heads up
- Rooms feel tired for a honeymoon splurge
- Preferred Club upgrade rarely worth it
Families
Not a fitAdults-only, no one under 18 permitted. Families should book the neighboring Dreams Cozumel instead.
high confidence
Heads up
- Adults-only property
- Kids from Dreams occasionally spill into shared areas
Peace & Quiet
StrongBy day this is a peaceful, low-key hideaway ideal for reading on the beach and slow lunches. Evening entertainment is thin, and when Dreams guests migrate over the Preferred pool can lose its serenity.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Small footprint, no golf carts needed
- Genuinely relaxed daytime atmosphere
- Adults-only means no screaming children
- Calm sea and quiet beach mornings
Heads up
- Dreams guests crowd the Preferred pool
- Evening entertainment underwhelms
- Nightclub described as filthy
The Secrets Spa by Pevonia (located next door at sister property Sunscape Sabor) offers a hydrotherapy circuit guests rave about, plus a fitness center, tennis court, on-site dive shop (Dive House), nightly entertainment, and a small shopping arcade. Service from the entertainment team gets named again and again in positive reviews.
Water sports included
- snorkeling
- non-motorized water sports
- introductory scuba lesson in pool
- kayaking

What past guests say
“This hotel is old and has many problems; it desperately needs a renovation. The phone, coffee maker, and curtains don't work. It smells awful, like sewage. The sheets are dirty! There are porn channels playing without your consent (very uncomfortable if you're traveling with children). You're better off staying at Dreams while they make improvements. Keeping this hotel open in such a deplorable state is only damaging the brand.”

- Rocky, coral-strewn entry into the water
What you should know
What to Know
This is an older property mid-renovation, and the room you draw dictates whether your trip is charming or miserable. Skip the Preferred upsell, bring water shoes, and expect a hard timeshare push.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Dreams guests get access to Secrets amenities
- Walk-in dining, no reservations except Gohan
- Compact layout, no shuttles needed
- Snorkeling under the pier is exceptional
Heads up
- Preferred Club offers little extra beyond a lounge
- Active construction and dated rooms in some buildings
- Aggressive timeshare sales pitch
- Restaurants rotate closed nightly
- Room maintenance issues (AC, locks, plumbing) common
WATCH OUT: Seasonal heads-up
- Sargassum seaweed can affect Caribbean beaches from roughly April through August, though Cozumel's west-facing coast is generally less impacted than the Riviera Maya
- Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk August–October
Cozumel airport (CZM) is about a 20-minute drive south to the resort. Check-in delays are a recurring complaint, so don't count on early room access. Expect aggressive timeshare ('Unlimited Vacation Club') pitches — feel free to decline firmly. Tips are technically included, but small extra gratuities go a long way with bartenders, housekeeping, and beach servers.
Good to know
- Cozumel's beaches are narrower than the mainland — come for the reef and water clarity, not wide sand
- There's a meaningful quality gap between Preferred Club and standard suites; upgrading is often worth it
- Expect persistent timeshare sales pitches at check-in and around the lobby
- On-site Dive House dive shop makes this an excellent base for divers
- The full spa is shared with sister resort Sunscape Sabor next door
