Why travelers love it

“Brand-new Riu on Cancun's quieter south end with easy beach access”

One of the newest properties in Cancun's hotel zone, Riu Ventura wins guests over with a fresh, well-kept feel and friendly staff. It sits on a swimmable stretch of beach at the south end of the strip, and a complimentary shuttle to sister-hotel nightlife adds a real party option when you want it.

Food & drink

Strong

The buffet punches above the typical all-inclusive standard, but pool-side snacks are a weak link and there's no room service to fall back on.

Dining overview

The main buffet is a highlight, described by guests as noticeably better than typical all-inclusive fare. Poolside snack options are weaker, and there is no room service.

Beach

Standout

The on-site beach near Playa Delfines is a genuine highlight, with easy access and conditions that support bodyboarding, surfing, and jet skiing.

Editorial beach rating

The beach fronting the resort is one of Cancun's better swimming stretches, with conditions that suit bodyboarding, surfing, and jet skiing. Access from the property is quick and easy.

Pools

Mixed

Multiple pools look great and include a swim-up bar, but repeated reports of slippery steps causing guest falls are a serious drawback.

Editorial pool rating

Multiple pools, including a swim-up bar area, get consistent praise for cleanliness and upkeep. Several recent guests have flagged slippery pool steps as a real hazard, so watch your footing.

Amenities & activities

Couples

Good fit

A solid pick for couples returning to the Riu brand, with a compact, well-maintained property and easy shuttle access to livelier sister-hotel nightlife.

Families

Stretch

Families are welcome and the beach lends itself to bodyboarding and jet skiing, but slippery pool steps and multiple witnessed falls are a real safety concern for kids.

Peace & Quiet

Mixed

Lively rather than laid-back: nightly shows, energetic entertainment staff, and shuttles ferrying guests to sister-resort clubs set the tone.

Nightly entertainment and 9pm shows are a draw, and the resort runs shuttles to a sister property's nightclub for guests who want a bigger party. The property feels more compact than Riu's Costa Mujeres resorts since it sits on the narrower hotel-zone strip.

“This hotel is exceptional, I visit Mexico 6 or 7 times a year. This RIU is my new favorite. They take suck good care of the hotel its spotless my room is beautiful, the food is very good. Checks all of the boxes. The few down sides / the adult pool is underwhelming small area no vibe at all, the loungers aren't the most comfortable the towels are low quality. The poolside entrainment is loud and obnoxious reminds me of a cheap cruise ship.<br>That being said the overall experience is 4+ out...”

“We enjoyed our stay, everything was great, the food was good, the location wasn't the best, the sea had strong waves, and I don't recommend the hotel's transport; it didn't wait for us even 5 minutes and left us stranded, so we had to pay for a taxi.”

What to Know

This is a compact, brand-new Riu on the south end of the Hotel Zone, about 15 minutes from downtown Cancun, with shuttle access to sister properties but a few operational quirks to plan around.

CUN nearest airport~25 min transfer

WATCH OUT: Seasonal heads-up

  • Sargassum seaweed can affect Cancun beaches between roughly April and August
  • Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, peaking in September

Book transfers in advance from Cancun airport (about a 25 minute ride to the south end of the hotel zone). Downtown Cancun is roughly a 15 minute bus ride away. Tipping in US dollars or pesos is appreciated even on an all-inclusive plan, and there is no room service so plan meals around restaurant hours.

Good to know

  • No room service is offered
  • Pool steps have been reported as dangerously slippery
  • Free shuttle service to a sister resort's nightclub
