Why travelers love it

“Riviera Maya crowd-pleaser with a lively adults-only wing”

Guests rave about the staff here, from bartenders who remember your name to butlers in the Privilege section who genuinely go the extra mile. The pools and entertainment team keep the energy up, though the resort itself is showing its age and the beach can disappear under sargassum in season.

Best for families wanting an adults-only section next doorBest for couples who like a lively atmosphereBest for groups of friendsBest for repeat Riviera Maya travelers

Food & drink

Strong

Food swings between impressive and forgettable depending on which venue you pick, but the overall spread satisfies most palates.

Dining overview

A range of buffet and à la carte restaurants across the combined Ocean Coral and El Beso complex, with cuisines including Mexican, Italian, and international. Quality varies venue to venue, so it's worth asking staff which are currently the strongest.

Beach

Weak

Sargassum is the real story here: seaweed can overtake the beach overnight and shut down ocean swimming entirely.

Editorial beach rating

The beach fronting the property is soft-sand Riviera Maya coastline, but like most resorts in this stretch it is heavily affected by seaweed during sargassum season, when swimming in the ocean may not be possible for days at a time. On clearer days it's pleasant enough for walking and lounging.

Pools

Standout

Pools are the clear win, kept clean with attentive staff and always a lounger available when the beach disappoints.

Editorial pool rating

Multiple pools are spread across the two connected properties, including a livelier main pool with a swim-up bar and a quieter adults-only pool on the El Beso side. Guests consistently mention the pools are clean, well-staffed, and rarely short on loungers.

What’s included

Amenities & activities

Couples

Good fit

The lively atmosphere and attentive butlers make it workable for couples, especially if you upgrade to Privilege for the red-carpet treatment.

Families

Good fit

An all-ages property with kids club and lively daytime programming, suitable for family trips without being a headline family resort.

Peace & Quiet

Mixed

Expect a lively, entertainment-forward vibe with the Blue team running activities morning, evening, and night; the adults-only wing is your escape valve.

Expect a full-service spa, fitness center, kids' club, teen activities, and a busy daily entertainment schedule with pool games, shows, and evening performances. The El Beso adults-only section layers on quieter pools, dedicated dining, and a more grown-up atmosphere.

“⭐ **1 STAR — EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING EXPERIENCE AT OCEAN CORAL & TURQUESA, RIVIERA MAYA, MEXICO!** **I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS RESORT!** I am sharing my experience with Ocean Coral & Turquesa because I believe future travelers deserve to know how my family and I were treated. My family and I booked a stay from **August 13–16, 2026**, expecting the quality, hospitality, and customer service advertised by this five-star all-inclusive resort. Unfortunately, our experience was anything but...”

“My husband and I stayed at Ocean Coral & Turquesa in April 2026. Life got busy before I could write this review, but our experience was too good not to recognize. The Privilege upgrade was absolutely worthwhile. We loved the dedicated pool and beach areas, lounge, à la carte breakfast, exclusive dining and personalized service. The main pool can be busy, with chairs reserved early, which made the quieter Privilege areas especially valuable. What truly made our stay memorable was the staff....”

What you should know

What to Know

Upgrade to Privilege for butler service and the best experience, and plan around potential sargassum by leaning on the pools.

CUN nearest airport~45 min transfer

WATCH OUT: Seasonal heads-up

  • Sargassum seaweed common on Riviera Maya beaches roughly April through August
  • Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, with peak risk in September

Cancun airport is roughly 45 minutes north; most guests pre-book a shared or private transfer rather than relying on taxis. Upgrading to Privilege is worth considering for the butler service and reserved pool areas that repeat guests mention. Tipping in USD is common and appreciated, especially for bartenders and butlers who go out of their way.

Good to know

  • El Beso is the adults-only wing; Ocean Coral is the family side, and guests can generally move between shared areas
  • Privilege (club-level) upgrade unlocks butler service and reserved pool zones that guests consistently rave about
  • Sargassum seaweed can seriously affect the beach from roughly April through August
  • The property is well-established and some rooms feel dated, so manage expectations on the hard product
  • Staff and bartender service is a standout strength across recent reviews
