“Everything was fine, although the Prestige team was great, providing excellent service. However, the room service lacked proactivity: spoiled fruit, no sponges, face wash, or cotton swabs, they threw away toothbrushes, didn't replenish items, etc. These are things that are easy to improve.”

“I’ve been coming to iberostar since 2016, this was my first time staying at the joia (previously called the Grand). It was a great upgrade from the suites. They asked us if we wanted to upgraded when we arrived at the suites and the cost was $120 pp for the four nights. We loved David (entertainment manager)senior and David jr. Both were extremely engaging and nice to speak with. Travis and shavaughn at the pool bar were amazing as usual. As was Jamie at the pool area of the suites. Devon at...”

Know before you book
- Some rooms could use updating (guest noted mildew smell)
- Beach service pace uneven at times
- French, Italian, Hibachi inconsistent
- Some dishes served cold
What you should know
What to Know
The property closed June through December 2026 for a full refurbishment, so verify reopening details; splurge on a butler suite and expect a walkable, buggy-served layout across the shared Iberostar complex.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Butler suites unlock the best experience
- Buggies shuttle you around the grounds
- Access to Selection property entertainment
- Short 15-minute airport transfer
Heads up
- Closed for renovation June to December 2026
- Pre-reno rooms had mildew and A/C issues
- Glass-walled toilet offers little privacy
WATCH OUT: Seasonal heads-up
- Atlantic hurricane season (June–November) — the property notes rebuilding after Hurricane Melissa
- Winter high season (Dec–Mar) books up early and pool chairs go faster
Sangster International (MBJ) is roughly a 15–25 minute transfer depending on traffic. Tipping isn't required but is appreciated, especially for butlers — guests repeatedly name Rohan, Alain, Andre, Glen, and Oraim. Book specialty restaurants through your butler or concierge early in your stay. If pickleball, tennis, or the cat sanctuary matter to you, ask about schedules and volunteer/donation options at check-in.
Good to know
- All suites come with butler service — using yours for restaurant reservations and special occasions is the standout perk
- Cat sanctuary on property cares for 50+ rescues; donations of food and supplies are welcomed
- Pickleball and tennis courts plus a strong activities program (yoga, water classes, crafts) keep the property livelier than a typical quiet adults-only
- Some interior areas show their age with occasional mildew/musty notes in older sections
- Rebranded from Iberostar Grand Rose Hall — older reviews under that name still apply
