Why travelers love it
“Family-friendly Playa Mujeres pool playground with lazy river and water park”
Three levels of pools spanning 65,000+ square feet — including infinity pools, a lazy river, and a kids' water park — make this a standout for families who came to spend the day in the water. The beach is wide and largely sargassum-free thanks to the protected Playa Mujeres coastline, though the resort hosts weddings nearly daily and that lively energy can spill into evenings.
Food & drink
MixedFood is solid but uneven for the price point, with the French venue and buffet variety winning praise while multiple guests call it subpar or cold. The best restaurants at neighboring Secrets are open to Preferred guests 13+, which quietly becomes the workaround for pickier eaters.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- French restaurant is the standout
- Buffet variety works for large groups
- Room service is dependable
- Access to Secrets restaurants next door
Heads up
- Breakfast items often served cold
- Poolside food limited and slow at Tides
- Gluten-free and celiac options thin
Dining overview
Ten dining venues, including six à la carte restaurants, a buffet, a grill, a fast-casual eatery, and a café. No reservations are required and 24-hour room service is available. Additionally, adult guests have access to the restaurants at the neighboring Secrets Playa Mujeres.

Beach
StrongThe beach is genuinely pretty with clean water and minimal seaweed, but it plays second fiddle to the pools and draws complaints about flies and thin service. Fine for strolls and photos, not the headline reason to book.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Clean water with little sargassum
- Wide, photogenic shoreline
- Bali beds available (ask about Preferred perks)
Heads up
- Flies on the sand noted by multiple guests
- Limited beach food and slow service
- Not the property's strongest asset
A wide stretch of soft sand on the calmer northern tip of the Riviera Maya, with clean turquoise water and noticeably less seaweed than resorts further south. Guests consistently call out beach bartenders and servers as a highlight.

Pools
StandoutThe pool complex is the reason to come: multiple pools including a mermaid pool for kids, swim-up bars, cabanas, and no chair shortage even in peak weeks. Standout poolside servers like Raul, Lucia, and Luis get named repeatedly.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Multiple pools for every mood
- Swim-up bars with attentive bartenders
- Chairs and cabanas readily available
- Pool entertainment team keeps energy high
Heads up
- Pool surfaces rough on feet, need resurfacing
- Water can run bathtub-warm in summer
- Isolated cleanliness complaints
The headline feature: three terraced pool levels totaling more than 65,000 square feet, two infinity pools with ocean views, six whirlpools, a lazy river, a dedicated kids' water park, and swim-up bars. Even in busy weeks guests report finding loungers.

What’s included
MixedAt luxury pricing this delivers a solid upper-mid experience, not a premium one, and repeat Dreams and Secrets guests notice the gap. The Preferred Club upgrade is worth it mainly for lounge access and swim-out rooms, less so for the in-room amenities.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Preferred Club lounge and Super Mario elevate the stay
- Swim-out suites deliver on the upgrade
- Grounds and landscaping feel high-end
- Repeat guests still return for the pools
Heads up
- Food and service inconsistent for the price
- Wear and tear showing in some buildings
- Preferred perks poorly explained on arrival
- Cheaper resorts deliver comparable experiences
Package inclusions and upgrade access have not been collected yet. Confirm them for your room and dates when booking.
Amenities & activities
Couples
StretchCouples can carve out romance here (swim-out suites, Preferred Club lounge, walkover to adults-only Secrets restaurants) but this is fundamentally a lively family and wedding resort, not a quiet honeymoon hideaway. Expect kids in most pools and wedding music several nights a week.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Preferred Club swim-out rooms feel private
- Adults-only Secrets dining a short walk away
- Beautiful grounds and ocean-view arrival
- Strong wedding and anniversary infrastructure
Heads up
- Wedding music blasts until 10 pm to midnight
- Family-heavy atmosphere across main pools
- Not a serene romantic retreat
Families
Good fitThis is one of Playa Mujeres' most family-capable resorts, with a mermaid pool, swim-up bars kids can reach, and a spread-out layout that absorbs large multigenerational groups. The catch: 13-year-olds are billed as adults and locked out of the best neighboring restaurants.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Mermaid pool and multiple kid-friendly pools
- Multigenerational groups handled smoothly
- Kids menus and family-friendly buffets
- Plenty of other children around to play with
Heads up
- 13-year-olds charged as adults
- Teens barred from Secrets restaurants next door
- Spread-out layout tough with strollers and grandparents
Peace & Quiet
WeakPeaceful this resort is not. Weddings run nearly nightly with amplified music carrying to guest rooms, open-air building cores funnel hallway noise, and the pool entertainment team keeps energy high all day.
high confidence
What you'll enjoy
- Preferred Club swim-out rooms offer morning calm
- Spa area is a genuine escape
- Beach quieter than the pools
Heads up
- Wedding DJs audible in rooms until 10 pm or later
- Open-air building atriums echo hallway noise
- Lively pool entertainment all day
- Warm rooms if patio left open
Extensive pool complex (65 000 sq ft with two infinity pools, water park, lazy river for Preferred Club), kids and teens clubs, spa with Watsu pool and Temazcal, golf course access, free access to adjacent Secrets for adults 18+.
Water sports included
- non-motorized water sports
- kayaking
- snorkeling gear
- introductory scuba lesson in pool

“I spent nearly $2,000 for a four-night stay at Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort, traveling more than 3,000 miles expecting a clean, relaxing, luxury all-inclusive experience. Not the case.<br>My first room was not properly clean, including the bathroom and toilet area, and had an obstructed view. I had to move rooms. In the second room, the phone initially did not work, and the patio furniture was dirty. Most concerning was the jacuzzi, which had visible residue and blood in and around...”

“We just got back from a week long stay at Dreams Playa Mujeres and we had an amazing time! Pros: amazing food! Every single restaurant was outstanding. Buffet was pretty good as well. Lots of good breakfast options, fresh fruit every day. Lots of good dinner options for kids. Coffee shop and snack place were great for a mid day ice latte or salad. Safe to say we were never hungry. Entertainment was great! Our boys 12 and 8 had a blast. They had beach soccer and volleyball twice a day. Lots...”
