Why travelers love it

“Large beachfront resort on El Cortecito offering full family‑friendly amenities and an upscale Royal Level option.”

Guests consistently praise the resort’s pristine beach and clean, swimmable waters. Families highlight the variety of pools and the well‑run kids’ club. The spa gets regular mention as a tranquil standout.

Food & drink

Mixed

Food is the resort's weakest link: buffets are serviceable with decent variety but flavors are average, and à la carte venues require booking hurdles. The Steakhouse and oriental spot are standouts; skip the Italian.

Dining overview

Offers 11 restaurants—including 7 specialty à la carte—and 10 bars; varied cuisine and casual snack venues throughout resort.

Beach

Standout

The beach is the headline: soft white sand, clear blue water, and one of the better stretches of Bavaro. Sargassum is actively managed and daily cleaning shows.

Editorial beach rating

Sits directly on El Cortecito Beach with wide stretch of clean white sand, very swimmable water and shade under coconut palms.

Pools

Strong

A huge main pool with a fun swim-up bar and daily activities anchors the day. It skews family and crowded, with limited shade and only one busy pool bar.

Editorial pool rating

Several outdoor pools including swim‑up bar options; family‑friendly and spread through lush landscaping.

Rooms & suites

860 rooms

Seven room types ranging from 441 sq ft Superior to 882 sq ft Royal Level Suite; Royal Level includes lounge, exclusive beach access, premium drinks and room service.

Superior

The entry-level room at this resort, around 441 square feet with a garden or resort view. Multiple reviews describe rooms as spacious and comfortable but note that fixtures and furnishings feel dated and worn in spots.

  • View:Garden view
  • Sleeps:3 guests
  • Size:41 m² (~441 ft²)

Superior Deluxe

A step up from the Superior with refreshed decor and finishes, still in the main resort blocks with a garden or pool-side view. A reasonable middle-ground if you want something a bit newer than the base room.

  • View:Garden view
  • Sleeps:3 guests
  • Size:41 m² (~441 ft²)

Family Junior Suite

Larger layout aimed at families, with room for parents and children and enough space that guests report fitting a party of several comfortably. Good pick if you need one bookable unit for a family rather than connecting rooms.

  • View:Garden view
  • Sleeps:4 guests

What’s included

Strong

For an affordable Punta Cana all-inclusive on prime Bavaro beach, the price-to-experience ratio works, especially if you upgrade to Royal Level. Just don't arrive expecting true luxury.

Package inclusions and upgrade access have not been collected yet. Confirm them for your room and dates when booking.

Amenities & activities

Couples

Stretch

Workable for anniversaries and low-key celebrations if you book Royal Level, but the lively family energy, dated rooms, and maintenance hiccups keep it from feeling romantic. Honeymooners have reported real letdowns.

Families

Ideal

This is the sweet spot for the resort: huge family pool, daily animation, a beloved kids club, and beachfront games keep every age busy. Multigenerational groups fit easily into standard and family rooms.

Peace & Quiet

Weak

This is a lively, music-forward resort with animation running from morning into the night. If you want calm, book Royal Level and request a room toward the back near the beach, away from the main stage.

Full spa and wellness center, fitness center, children’s entertainment program, multiple sports and water‑sport options, nightly live shows and nightclub.

What past guests say

“I'm sorry to have to give them a bad review, but I feel it's necessary to bring some issues to light. Barceló is a chain usually known for its quality, but in Punta Cana, it falls short. I think there are many areas that could be improved to make this a truly good hotel. The rooms are extremely neglected; the linens are old and stained. The bathroom is awful, full of mold, and they don't even replenish the hand soap. I walked in just as the maid was working, and she had the toilet brush on...”

What you should know

What to Know

The Occidental Vacation Club timeshare pitch is aggressive and has burned past guests; decline the free massage offer. Book à la carte reservations early, request a room away from the main stage, and consider Royal Level for a meaningful step up.
